Nathan Swift’s team have more than competed in the Championship this season and made it three wins from six at Green Moor as they climb the table.
Batting first they lost their skipper for 9, but that didn’t hold his partner Sheryaar Ali back. Like his captain, he’s enjoyed a good start to proceedings at the start of the 2022 season and it showed in abundance on Saturday afternoon. Stevie Walters added 29 from a 126 stand with the opener. A middle order wobble threatened to undo all the hard work, as 146 for 2 became 185 for 7. However, wicket keeper Matthew Clayton joined Sheryaar and they added 58 before Ali was the ninth man out for 126 from 130 balls, his second championship hundred of the season.
Matthew Clayton was just as impressive as he made 80 not out from 43 balls to lift the away side to 297 for 9.
Green Moor were never in the run chase and made 197 for 6 from their allotted overs. William Nicholson continued to impress with his off spin as he took three wickets.
Barnsley are now up to ninth in the table despite starting the season on minus twelve points.
