Barnsley are delighted to announce the signature of Harvey Round from Haxey CC. 17 year old Harvey made his Yorkshire CCC second eleven debut this summer and is seen by many as a future opening bowler for the county.
Cricket chairman Jason Booth couldn’t hide his excitement at the signing as we caught up with him. ‘Harvey reminds me of a young Matthew Hoggard, his signature has been highly sought after this winter and to get it over the line is massive for us as a club.’
We asked Harvey what made him choose Barnsley for the next stage of his development, ‘From the first conversation between myself, Jason and Chappy I felt an instant feeling that the club as a whole really focuses on player development and seeing players who have been in my position go on to become professionals due to the help of Barnsley CC, I felt that this was the right place for me to play my cricket to make me the best I can be.’
Harvey is an ambitious lad and added, ‘My main goal is to make it as a professional player and represent Yorkshire and England at the highest level possible.’ He also stated ‘I’m most looking forward to getting to know all of the lads and stepping back out on the pitch, hopefully winning competitions and trophies with a great club.’
Jason added, ‘We can’t wait to help him achieve his dreams and working alongside our head coach and bowling coach Mark Beardshall, we’re sure he’ll achieve all he sets out to conquer.’
Harvey is from the village of Haxey and has spent all his young career at the club. He made massive strides this summer from representing the Academy to playing for the second team alongside England player, Matthew Fisher. Over the two games whilst representing his county he bowled 14 overs for 45 runs and took three wickets.
Everyone at the club wishes Harvey the very best and are excited to see him develop as a person and a cricketer.
