Stat Attack

Stat Attack

Phillip Chapman23 Apr - 05:25

Week One

The season got underway on Saturday with unseasonable weather. The coats and bovril of most opening weekends was replaced with tee shirts and soft drinks (honest!!!).

Every week we’ll take a look at the stats from around the Leagues our team are involved in. Individual stats will take a couple of weeks to develop, so we’ll look at some team stats this week.

The Premier League saw four captains choose to field first and two chose to bat, neither captain was successful when taking first dig. Out of the teams that batted first in the openers, 58 out of a possible 60 wickets fell, that’s a league record for the first games. 66.6% of games were won by teams chasing. The average score for teams batting first was 171, but that figure rises to 189 for the teams that were successful in setting a winning score. 33 wickets fell whilst chasing overall. Wakefield Thornes set the highest score for the season at 190 all out. They still had over 5 overs to bat when they were dismissed. Cawthorne set the lowest score with 127 all out. Barnsley at 2.71, set the highest net run rate. The run rate for seamers was 4.20 per over compared to 3.95 for spinners. However, the average for seamers was 20.92 per wicket compared to 25.43 for spinners.

Two captains won the toss and selected to bat in Division One with Darfield posting the highest score with 223 for 8. Barnsley were the other side, but they came unstuck, two of the five sides batting first were successful. The average score for batting first was 173. The average score for the successful sides was 209. Barnsley’s 103 was the lowest score.

Division Four saw one skipper elect to bat, but that wasn’t a success. The average score of the team batting first was 141, with Barnsley’s 171, the only successful defend. Doncaster’s successful run chase saw them amass 181 as the division’s highest score. Sheffield Univeristy Staff’s 71 all out was the lowest score.

Division seven again saw one skipper elect to bat, although this time it was successful. Three of the five games saw the team batting first be triumphant. The average score was 167, of Higham’s 246 the highest. The lowest score was Brookhouse with 110 all out.
