ONE WIN AND ONE LOSS AT CLEETHORPES

The first team came away from Sunday's long trip to Cleethorpes with a win and a loss in the first round of T20 Blast fixtures. Playing an under strength Tickhill team in game one a win was never really in danger, as we restricted them to what was a well under par 128 for 4 with wickets shared between Beukes, Jackson, Smith and a first wicket for Matty Clegg on his debut for the firsts. Barnsley set about the total and although losing Wetherald early after hitting two boundaries in the four deliveries he faced made quick progress through good batting from Oliver Bennett and a stylish contribution from a back in form Leo Johnson. Despite a late collapse the target was achieved with eleven balls left after Stenton hit a six to win the game.

The second game was a contrasting story as Barnsley were well beaten by Cleethorpes who won both their games on the day. Starting brightly batting first Frostick and Wetherald put on 30 for the first wicket when Beck and Jake fell in quick succession the momentum stopped and Barnsley were scratchy throughout the innings reach only 134 for 8 with Bennett and Johnson again contributing well assisted by some late hitting from Zak Jahangir.
The total never looked enough and as both Cleethorpes openers tucked into some woeful Barnsley bowling the game had all but gone by the fifth over. Entertaining knocks from Keast (86 from 36 balls) and Sadamal (43 from 27 balls) seeing Cleethorpes home with the loss of just one wicket. Really showing Barnsley how to approach T20 cricket. Hopefully lessons have been learnt on the day and this will lead to better performances in the next two rounds.
