Both games of T20 games at Doncaster Town followed a similar pattern. Restricting the home side to 156 and 146 in the respective games. Both times the innings was set up by three wickets for Charlie Taylor and by the openers William Chapman and Stephen Walters before the innings faltered and they fell short.
The first game saw Barnsley fall ten runs short, despite only losing three wickets. Chasing 157, they were 75 for 0 at the half way stage. Chapman then fell in the 11th over for 36 from 25 balls, Giyanani only contributed one in seven balls and the innings began to falter. Needing 30 from the last three overs, the batters couldn’t get over the line. Walters making 64 not out from 64 balls.
The second game saw Barnsley knowing that they needed to reach their target of 147 in 18.2 overs to progress to the semi finals. This time it was a 52 opening partnership in 5.3 overs that set the game up for the taking. After Chapman made 24 in 13 balls, the innings didn’t get the momentum it needed to push for the win and a place in the semi finals.
After Whitehead departed for 18, the score stood at 97 for 2, requiring 50 runs from 34 balls to progress. Walters was next out for a run a ball 48, however searching for the big shots they needed the side was bowled out for 127 with no other batter reaching double figures.
