Match Report
The first team came up against a strong Appebly Frodingham side yesterday and finished a distant second.
Frod won the toss and decided to bat, the opening effort from the bowlers was inconsistent and the home side got off to a good start. Their skipper, Matt Fowler, had made a good start but the introduction of Beck Frostick saw Fowler miss time a pull shot to Leo Johnson for Barnsley’s first wicket after making 29. The bowlers found wickets hard to come by and needed a run out to dismiss Alex Grimes shortly after reaching his fifty. Appleby's overseas player Jordan Neil played well for his hundred after being dropped off Frostick on 12. Leo Johnson took two late wickets but their total of 251 for 4 could have been much lower had chances been taken off Grimes and Neil with the total in the 50s.
Barnsley skipper Jason Booth was caught and bowled for a duck in the second over before a 37 run partnership between Jon Trower and Leo Johnson. Once they were dismissed for 24 and 27 respectively, only Ciaran Stenton who made 27 and Zak Jahangir made 17 on his first team league debut made any further meaningful contributions as the innings finished on 141 all out. Barnsley will surely look to improve for next weeks home fixture to Whitley Hall.
