The first team travel to Appleby Frodingham with all players available this week, apart from Harvey Round, whose long standing injury keeps him on the sidelines still.
Charlie Taylor moves back up to the ones and is able to bowl after his great week in cricket. He scored a ton for the twos and then bagged three wickets in each innings at Doncaster Town in the T20’s on Sunday. It was enough to win him the Griffin of the Week.
Will Chapman and Owen Smith will lead the line up top as the sides two leading run scorers with Stephen Walters slotting in after them.
Rizwan Ishaq and Charlie are the two opening bowlers with Manny Shinwari the third seam option. It’ll be trial by spin after that with Sean Whitehead, Jash Giyanani, Boeta Beukes and Will Nicholson as skipper Beukes has plenty of options with the ball.
Appleby have made a poorer start to the season as they’d have liked, the 2021 and 2022 Premier League Champions currently sit two places below Barnsley in tenth place with only one win from five.
They still have plenty of danger men in the side with Alex Grimes leading the team, however the departure of Jordan Cook and Joe Baker, back to their original club Cleethorpes, has weakened the side. Cook, won his third league title last year back at Chichester Road, following his two titles at Appleby.
Barnsley will be hoping to put some distance between themselves and today’s opponents.
