Nathan Swift can take many positives from their opening day loss against Hallam at Shaw Lane.
Having been inserted by the away side, Nathan and Sheryaar Ali benefitted from a lot of extras early in their digs to get the innings started. Ali nicked off for 5, which brought Bilal Imtiaz to the crease on his Barnsley debut. They took the score to 60, before Imtiaz and Oliver Bennett were dismissed in consecutive balls. Stevie Walters made 10 before he was harshly judged to have nicked one behind. At one stage Barnsley would have hoped for a total well in excess of 200, but they began to lose wickets when they tried to accelerate the innings. Will Nicholson (17) and Will Chapman (11) both tried to kick start the innings with the later running out his skipper for a well crafted 70. The innings finished on 168 all out.
In reply Hallam lost an early wicket to Matty Clegg, when Jordan Slattery reduced the away team to 29 for 2, Barnsley were in a strong position. Unfortunately for the home side, Hallam’s overseas, Christian Leddicoat, batted very well for a match winning 86 from 81 balls. He was backed by a patient Will Newton who made an unbeaten 39. Kamran Khayer bowled 6 overs for 22 but unfortunately no bowler could take more than one wicket and Hallam reached their target comfortably for the lose of 3 wickets.
