The first game of the South Yorkshire Senior League Division 2 season got underway in Norton, with new skipper Mark Wilkinson losing the toss and Woodseats opting to bowl first on a wicket that looked like it would be difficult to bat on. We lost opener Lewis Bray in the 2nd over, Clayts and Freddie started to rebuild the Innings with the Woodseats seamers putting them under lots of pressure. We lost 2 quick wickets leaving us on 30/3 with the skipper joining Clayts at the crease. They steadied the ship and took the score to 105 before the skipper ran out clayts who had scored a magnificent 59. Unfortunately this then led to a collapse in the middle order with only Mark Wilkinson (18) and Ollie Chapman-Stott (18) managing double figures. The last 7 wickets falling for 39 runs leaving Woodseats chasing a total of 145 to win.

After the interval the Barnsley seamers found it difficult to find their line and length and Woodseats got off to a good start before Z Khan(1/15) dismissed the opener with Matthew Clayton taking a brilliant diving catch. M Shinwari (2/19) then took 2 wickets in a over to restrict the host to 68/4. The skipper then introduced himself and Lewis Bray into the attack and straight away the host found it difficult to the two of them away. It proved a master stroke from the skipper as he and Bray chipped away at the Woodseats batters before finally bowling them out for 99, with Mark Wilkinson finishing with 2/18 off 11 overs and the once miserable Lewis Bray ( came round after a plate full of chips at tea) 5/13 off 12 overs.

A fantastic performance from the lads with a couple of outstanding performances from Clayts and Bray. Who celebrated with a few inch's and a sing a long to the Worzel's classic "I am a Cider Drinker".

Plenty of positives to take forward into next weekends home game against Penistone CC.
