On a glorious sunny day at Shaw Lane, Mark Wilkinson won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening pair of Clayton and Bray were looking to build an Innings from the get go but the Penistone openers had a different agenda. The bowlers hit there lengths pretty consistently and restricted us to 36/4 after 18 overs with all 4 wickets been adjust LBW by the officials. This brought together Egginton and Shillito, playing his 1st game back at Shaw Lane after horrific injury last season, who started to rebuild the Innings with grit and determination. Both played some great shots throughout their Innings with Egginton bringing up is 50 in 113 balls before being dismissed by Penistone skipper Tom Exley for 51. Shillito continued to strike the ball to all parts of the ground bringing up his 50 in 67 balls. With the lower order been marshalled by Shillito they put on useful runs before Shillito fell for a well crafted 59, some lower order striking got the Barnsley total up to 181/8 off 50 overs.
After a great tea, the Barnsley bowlers set off trying to defend the total but unfortunately the opening pair couldn't hit their line and lenghts and were taken out of the attack, a dropped catch in the slips didn't help the cause as Penistone opener Tom Reid made the Barnsley attack pay. Penistone reached 35/1 off the first 4 overs with the skipper introducing himself into the attack along with Ishaq. The skipper took 2 wickets to reduce the visitors to 65/3 after 16 overs with Ishaq helping to keep the pressure on from the other end. With Barnsley needing wickets, Lewis Bray was introduced into the attack and managed to trap the dangerous Daniel Ogden in front with Penistone still in control at 110/4. With Skipper Mark Wilkinson finishing a 15 over spell with figures of 2/31 he introduced Ishaq back into the attack with Bray, the pressure was kept up with some outstanding fielding from the lads. Ishaq took a wicket with just his 4th ball to leave Penistone 121/5 and still having the dangerous Tom Reid at the crease. With Ishaq finding a consistent line and length and some excellent fielding, the Penistone batters started to feel the pressure, Ishaq took 2 more wickets to leave the visitors 146/7. The skipper kept the squeeze on to some discontent from the crowd but this ultimately paid dividends with the Penistone batters taking on risky runs, Lewis Bray produced a great bit of fielding to run out the dangerous Tom Reid for 79. Ishaq then produced a bullet of a arm to run out Jack Durkan from extra cover with a direct hit, with Penistone still needing 18 to win from the last pair with 4 overs to go. Ishaq 3/38 continued to hit his lenghts and the Penistone last pair got in a mix up and Ollie Chapman-Stott ran out the final batsmen to give us the 12 points. Other wicket takers being Z Khan 1/18 and Lewis Bray 1/60.
A great game with plenty of positives to take going forward. We move on to Sheffield Collegiate next weekend.
