Alex Gough’s team won their first back to back game of the season but not without shredding everyone’s nerves with a five run victory at Sheffield University Staff CC.
After 14 overs the away side were 17 for 5 and staring at a low total, however, like the second team, they found a way of reaching a defendable total. The recovery started with Ethan Shillito and Ollie Chapman-Stott and after they were out for 19 and 20 respectively it was left to Ben Bentley and Finley Parker-Wake to fly the flag. Bentley finished with 64 not out and Parker-Wake an unbeaten 27. Their 85 run partnership taking the side to 148 for 7.
Parker-Wake then opened the bowling and took the first wicket, as the wickets began to be shared around the bowlers. Bentley backed his batting heroics up with a wicket and there were braces for Gough and Shillito. Chapman-Stott finished with figures of 3 for 19.
At 119 for 9 the game was favouring Barnsley but a 24 run partnership left the nerves in tatters. Parker-Wake was the hero as he caught and bowled the winning wicket.
