It was great to see so many young players making their hard ball debut for the club in their narrow loss to Penistone.
Max Gamble took three wickets opening the bowling for the young Griffins, there was also a wicket for George Callaghan. The 35 extras they gave away will something I’m sure they’ll be working on in training this week. Penistone finished on 94 for 4, taking 5 runs off for each wicket, and starting on 200, that gave them a net score of 274.
Barnsley only lost two wickets in their reply, which is very pleasing, and Oscar Howell reached double figures, scoring 10 not out.
Overall, a great learning experience for the young side and hopefully the return of the ‘footballers’ to the team will strengthen them enough to win a few games as the season progresses.
