You could have been mistaken for thinking that you were looking at an IPL score when you first glimpsed the Barnsley total at Worsborough for the Under 13s.
They amassed 220 for 3 from their 20 overs and given that batters retire on 30, that’s a remarkable team effort. The top seven all scored at more than a run a ball with retirements for the top three batters and also Toby Rigby, batting at six.
Rohan Vermula and skipper Archie Chapman-Stott both made it to 29 before retiring with maximums, to leave them with 35 from 17 and 16 balls respectively. Alfie Worth also retired from 21 balls. The first wicket didn’t fall until the score was 128. There were runs for Charlie Worth (16) and Reuben Haupt (14) and 22 not out from Connor Scattergood.
Needing to bowl Worsborough out to secure the full five points was the only slight on the evening as their batters frustrated the bowlers making 66 for 8. However, Barnsley used nine bowlers to give everyone a game and if they can perform so dominantly all season, they should finish close to the top.
There were two wickets each for Mohammad Yolda and Toby Rigby and one each for George Burke, Alfie Worth, Max Gamble and Charlie Worth.
Next week they welcome Cawthorne to Woolley.
