Coach Jake Chapman couldn’t have got their campaign off to a better start against Rockingham at Woolley. The away side won the toss and elected to field, but from the start openers Ollie Chapman-Stott and Isaac Wilkes were busy, Ollie looking to put the bad balls to the boundary and Isaac rotating the strike very well.
It wasn’t until the eleventh over before Ollie was cleaned up looking for the big shot to bring up his retirement. He made 37 from just 30 balls, with the score on 78. Vinnie Chapman joined Isaac and was the second wicket to fall for 12 runs. Isaac’s retirement for 40 came from 55 balls. A few lusty blows at the end of the innings left Barnsley on 127 for 3 from their 20 overs.
The excellent new opening partnership of talented seamers Zain Ali and Bobby Wright meant that Rockingham never looked like chasing their winning target. Bobby’s debut figures of 3 for 0 and four maidens were extremely impressive. The left armer cleaning up two batters and an lbw decision. Ali only shipping seven runs from his four overs.
There were wickets for Isaac, Charlie Hay and Harman Batth, as Rockingham finished on 58 for 6.
The energy in the field was great and long way the impressive start continue long into the season.
